Hands-on Workshop

Urban Atölye hosted a three-day Hands-On Workshop titled "Coated Laminated Composite" on November 22 to 24, 2019, at its studio in Maslak Oto Sanayi. The workshop brought together participants to design and experiment with the processes of lamination, mixing, and coating, exploring how materials can be combined to create new ones that are lighter, stronger, more flexible, and more sustainable.

The program kicked off on Friday evening with introductory presentations and first experiments using ready-made metal, polymer, and cementitious mixtures. Participants had the chance to experience sample substrates firsthand before preparing their own surface designs for CNC cutting. Saturday was dedicated to fabrication and group work, where participants developed their material studies in a fully equipped, active studio environment. The workshop concluded on Sunday with presentation preparations followed by a final review session open to invited guests.

Throughout the event, participants worked directly with cementitious mixtures, concrete chemicals, fibers, adhesives, reinforcements, and metal sheets, gaining practical experience across the full arc from raw material to finished product, spatial quality, and building components. Urban Atölye provided all necessary safety equipment and briefed participants on workshop protocols to ensure a safe and productive environment for everyone.
