Alvaz
The Brutalist Three-Branch Ikebana Vase
Alvaz is a three-branched sculptural vase designed by architect Nilüfer Kozikoğlu, a brutalist interpretation of root forms found in nature. Its arms extend outward from a single nucleus, each differentiating as it grows, inviting you to compose tree branches, twigs, bushes, and cut or dried flowers into wild, ever-changing arrangements. "You are free to shape the new formations of nature," says Kozikoğlu. Like the ikebana ritual, Alvaz turns the act of arranging into a moment of quiet contemplation, each session unique, the result always surprising. Sculptural from every angle, it makes a striking feature at any entrance or reception.

Handcrafted from a special concrete mixture at Urban Atölye, Alvaz comes in a family of sizes, each one shifting in character when viewed from different angles. The concrete version of which is available in white, brut concrete grey, and earth tones, Alvaz adapts to any interior while retaining its distinctly raw, organic presence.
For those drawn to a more painterly expression of the same form, Alvaz Amulet reimagines the vessel in porcelain, with surfaces hand-painted by ceramic artist Sera İlel in an eclectic, expressionist style. The two editions speak the same formal language while offering entirely different material experiences, and together they represent the full range of what the Alvaz form can become. In her hands, the brutalist form becomes a canvas where contrasting patterns meet freely, giving each piece a wholly unique character. The porcelain edition is handcrafted by mold master Orhan Çolakoğlu for Urban Atölye. Alvaz Amulet can be purchased exclusively on Hipicon.
