Alvaz Amulet
The Brutalist Ikebana Vase, Painted in Porcelain
Alvaz Amulet is a porcelain edition of the original Alvaz vessel, the three-branched brutalist form designed by architect Nilüfer Kozikoğlu, reimagined through the hands of ceramic artist Sera İlel. Where the original is cast in raw concrete, İlel reinterprets the same folded, organic surfaces through an eclectic, expressionist lens, drawing on porcelain traditions from different regions of the world.

İlel's compositions are applied onto the porcelain surface through serigraphy, a printing technique that bonds the design deeply into the surface and ensures exceptional durability and color fidelity over time. The result transforms the brutalist form into a canvas where contrasting patterns meet freely and unapologetically, giving each piece a wholly unique character. No two Alvaz Amulets are alike; each one is a singular work, as much a print as it is a vessel. Handcrafted by mold master Orhan Çolakoğlu for Urban Atölye, the making of each piece is a collaboration between considered design and instinctive artistic expression.
Alvaz Amulet was notably featured in the Earthquake Relief Benefit Auction organized by Artsy, Ethan Cohen Gallery, and Elma in support of Turkish Philanthropy Funds and Open Arms, as one of 80 artworks donated by global artists. It was presented courtesy of GAD Art and Design, and its inclusion in the auction speaks to the way Alvaz Amulet transcends the boundary between functional object and collectible artwork. Those who wish to experience the Alvaz form in its raw, concrete original can explore the original Alvaz collection. Alvaz Amulet can be purchased exclusively on Hipicon.
